Welcome to "episode" i. of the Photo Book Club.

Today's recommendation is a classic from Mitch Epstein.

Epstein's large format depictions of a city his family refused to visit due to the horrors of the holocaust are subtlety fascinating and beautiful as they draw you in to the scene at hand. The focus on architecture, art, and other facets of history that has been kept as a reminder of Berlin's past are serene and depict a sense of quiet, as if the weight of the what has come and gone deafens the city and surrounding area.

It doesn't hurt that the print quality is amazing and the overall design lets the collection do all of the talking.
